Melvin "Mel" Eugene Artman, 85, of North Kingsville, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday February 24, 2026. He was born Nov 9, 1940 in Ashtabula, Ohio. The son of Delbert William and Eleanor Etta (Hackathorn) Artman.
Mel and his twin brother, Milford, moved to California when they were 16. They enjoyed building and racing hot rods together. Mel moved back to Ohio in 1968 and worked as a truck driver and mechanic for over 50 years. He was always busy at home working on vehicles, equipment, doing home repairs or remodeling projects, cutting wood and doing yard work. Mel usually had cows and sometimes pigs to take care of and; after he bought his daughter, Heidi, her first pony, there was usually a horse or two in the barn over the years as well. He often called himself a wannabee farmer. Mel enjoyed staying home, riding his 4-wheeler or golf cart around his property, admiring his Ford Coupe cars and meeting his buddies at the coffee shop each morning. Most of all, Mel enjoyed being with his wife, 8 kids and 14 grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Judy (Gollon), of North Kingsville; his sons Milford (Dana) Artman, Troy Artman, Craig (Jade) Artman, Scott (Sandra) Artman and Kevin (Kristin) Artman; his daughters Kathy Artman and Heidi Artman; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sister Louise Pack; and many nieces and nephews.
